Say YES to Diffusing Aggression and Bullying at School

Be Bully-proof

Say Yes to Diffusing Aggression and Cyber-Bullying at School

Schools face many challenges. Among the most severe are the following:

One in six children cuts him-/herself.
High School drop-out rates are at epidemic levels.
Much too often we hear of suicides of teenagers and young college students, in which bullying plays a big part.

The  training we offer in February in the Dallas/Forth Worth area to teachers, counselors, and parents will address these urgent issues and offer a solution. Teachers will learn how to teach their students  to self-monitor and self-regulate  anxiety, anger, and stress levels and perform at their optimum.   These simple, yet effective tools can be applied by everyone. No prior yoga experience is required.

Tip of the Week – car or TV yoga

We can do yoga even when we are driving a car, reading a book or watching TV – just by sitting up tall, lifting our heart (upper chest), rolling our shoulders back and down and starting to breathe fully.
When driving, I push my bottom back in my seat as far as I can, so my back is fully supported.
At home, I sit on the floor in a cross-legged position directly in front of the sofa with a long and tall spine for a few minutes. This re-energizes my body with a few breaths because I am activating energy points under my shoulder blades and opening the hips. Great for releasing stress!
Tip: use some blankets or pillows to sit on, if sitting cross-legged on the floor does not feel comfortable.

Tip of the week: become more aware of your breath and feel better

To become more aware of your  breath,  place one hand on your chest and the other on your belly button area.  Check whether only your chest rises and falls, or your belly button moves in and out. When only your chest rises and falls, your breathing is flat. This can be the beginning of feeling tired, anxious or stressed. Try to pull the air deep down into the tips your lungs so that your diaphragm pushes down and your belly button pushes out on the inhale. Pull your belly button back towards your spine on the exhale. Check if you feel different after a few breaths! If you are not used to breathing deeply, stop as soon as you feel light-headed. Otherwise, enjoy the new calmness and peace of mind!
